MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Layaway Santa is back for the upcoming holiday season and aiming to get raise more money toward layaway funds this year than last. Now, local businesses are helping them do it.

Santa’s slay is still a little more than a month away from making its appearance in Middle Georgia but the annual Layaway Santa campaign is already back in action.

“It’s such a great organization with great people working for them and I really believe in their mission. I think anytime that we can help make our community better we can do that,” said Travis Jean owner Scott Mitchell.

Mitchell is one of 10 local business partnering with Layaway Santa this year–and one of the businesses going beyond the donation jar to help them meet their goal.

“‘Small Business Saturday’, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we’re going to donate a portion of our sales to Layaway Santa,” said Mitchell.

Tamika Fluker is a regular customer at Travis Jean. She just found out about Layaway Santa upon coming into the store to buy an item.

“There are so many people that even when they put things on layaway they struggle to make those payments so I think it’s a great idea to take one more stress off of people going into the holidays,” Fluker said.

Fluker says now that she knows about it, she plans to put her business to good use.

“Anything we can do to support Macon and make Macon a better place, and encourage people to come locally and spend time locally I think is great,” she continued.

Layaway Santa’s goal this year is to raise $6,000 and alongside local businesses, they’re hoping to reaching that goal with the help of Middle Georgia’s shoppers.

In just two to three days Layaway Santa has raised more than $1,000. If you’re interested in donating you can click the link here.
